Robert Carl "Bud" McFarlane (born July 12, 1937) is the former National Security Advisor to President Ronald Reagan, serving from 1983 to late-1985. He was one of the major participants in the Iran-Contra affair. He eventually pled guilty to misdemeanors counts of withholding information from Congress. He was pardoned by George H. W. Bush. McFarlane occasionally appears on national television and publishes articles on U.S. national security.
